County resident has stormwater issue
I want to comment on the stormwater drainage system in Eagleton Village that runs from Blount Avenue through the backyards of residents on Gilbert Avenue.
There is way too much water being routed through the yards on Gilbert Avenue, and something major needs to be done regarding this. I was told by my real estate representative two years ago before I bought my house that this was not a flood area, and the ditch in my yard would not flood over. My yard looks like a lake on three sides when the heavy and continuous rains come, which is up to the foundation and into the crawl space.
There is an added problem with a neighbor at Gilbert Avenue who reduced his ditch to trench size, and the new owner has let the grass grow up 3 to 4 feet and mowed down and blocked up the trench in his yard, which is inhibiting the flow of water. I spoke to this neighbor back in the spring, and he assured me that he would clean out the trench but still continues to block the trench with overgrown grass.
I have talked to two county representatives who both state this is a civil matter and there is nothing they can do.
I feel the county has created this major problem and should be responsible for the damage being done to my house and yard for the past 70 plus years since it was built and enforce residents to keep their ditches open. In my opinion, exactly what do the Blount County officials get paid to do — pass the buck!
