Forefathers disagreed but got a good start
Dear Editor:
I read in the July AARP bulletin an article written by Jim Toedtman editor that said, “Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Alexander Hamilton were men who never liked one another” yet look what they accomplished when they set aside their differences.
We are deep in an election year, vanity, ideology and shortsightedness running the show. President Barack Obama and his contender Mitt Romney are like two kids fighting to keep a sandbox each to themselves with no compromise in sight.
John Adams, and I quote, wrote about the Continental Congress, “Decisions would be made by noise, not sense, by meanness, not greatness, by ignorance, not learning, by contracted hearts, not large souls.” What has happened to this Great Country? Did we forget United We Stand, Divided We Fall? Even though I am quoting a lot, I think we can do better.
By the way, the title of the article was “Greatness Not Meanness.”
Sincerely,
Georgia Taylor
