Mother of student backs wheel tax
I am a Blount County resident, consumer, home owner, and most importantly a parent of a Blount County student. As a parent, I want to raise my child with every advantage possible so she can succeed in life and accomplish her dreams of the future.
The children of today are the leaders of tomorrow; they are the future business owners, medical professionals, teachers, parents, etc., and we owe it to them to provide the best education we can in the 21st century.
Blount County Schools have been in a financial crisis for several years with the problem worsening each year. Blount County per pupil spending is $8,701 with a state average being $9,123.
This shortfall has, and will continue to cause the elimination of critical positions, updated textbooks, instructional resources and current technology.
Students are faced with higher standards and greater accountability and we cannot afford to continue to eliminate anything more from their education.
Thank you for your strong support for our school system. Please join me on June 11 and vote “yes” to the wheel tax. Together we can achieve “excellence in education = value for taxpayers.”
