People, gift of self are most important
Dear Editor:
I want to publicly thank the family at a local business for their genuine kindness. Late Saturday morning, Dec. 1, I went there for information about equipment and planning I needed for a complicated, necessary job. Without hesitation, the men told me my problems were solved. Two hours later, they finished the entire demanding procedure, and all done in an atmosphere of smiles and cheerfulness. I’m overwhelmed by the silent goodness of these people. They would not accept pay and when I asked how I could ever express my tremendous gratitude I was told “pray for us.”
This family naturally gives the true gift of self. This act has reinforced my belief in the inborn goodness of people and sympathy for those few with sick, evil minds. This past year and a half, we have experienced a number of tragedies and received total support from neighbors, family, friends and silent strangers. These people have not acted from a sense of duty. They’ve seen a need and responded with kindness. I can’t list each name, most have stayed anonymous, they’ve given a major gift of self.
I remain overwhelmed by the goodness of man and am so very grateful. People, not busy schedules, yard work, floor sweeping, etc., are the real importance in the world. I count my blessings.
