Purpose of huge U.S. deficit is questioned

Dear Editor:

We have a radical misfit in the White House that has no concept of the damage he is doing. Our laws and Constitution appear to be a nuisance to him. National news services are letting him off with kind words and no explanation of where our country is headed. Spending money we don’t have seems to be one of Obama’s favorite pastimes with a reckless disregard to the damage being done. We are accumulating a national debt of immense proportions with nothing to show for it. A reasonable estimate of $20 trillion will be attained within the next four years to leave to our grandchildren.

All of the above is for what purpose? The only cut in spending we hear about is our military that we tried before. Those that don’t recall Bill Clinton’s destruction of our military should ask the families of our National Guard and Reserves how they were selected to fight our current wars. Closed bases, hospitals and loss of medical services for amputees don’t seem to bother the politicians running our government now. One thought occurs to this 30-year veterans: when our troops finally come home the public is asked to monitor the re-enlistment rate of the returnees ... how many stay in service? And if you think the compulsory draft is the answer, it takes years to train soldiers with two left feet.

Those of us that have been shot at or deployed from families for months at a time do so willingly because we see the need for safety of our families: don’t abuse the privilege! Amputees on cots in hallways tended to by family members do not cut it! The two hospitals in Washington are full of cosmetic surgery patients!
