Reader advocates term limits for all
Dear Editor:
Recently a gentleman wrote a letter to the newspaper and spoke about two of our state politicians who have been in office 30 years or so and want to get into federal politics. Principally the House or Senate. Not unusual. He claims they have been “do nothing” representatives. What’s different? We all know that about 90 percent of our present representatives fall under that category. It’s time you and I did something about it!
What can I do, you ask? For once in your life — think! America as a whole possesses the “most out of tune” electorate in the Western world!” I think electing Obama twice proves that!
The term, term limits, appeared a few years ago and at first I was against them. However, we were not in the lousy position that we are in today. I noticed that when the Congress and Senate voted to put a two-term limit on the president they would not talk about themselves. Why would they? They have voted themselves raises every year for years. Their lifetime insurance, their retirement, all voted in by them! However, this is a drop in the bucket to what really motivates them, the lobbyist! That’s where the big money comes from and that’s who they represent! Not you or I!
So how do we force term limits on them? Very simple friend! You never vote to re-elect anyone! Always practice this in every election until it becomes habit! Think people! Do this and they will come begging us to tell them what we want and they will then change their tune and start representing us!
Unfortunately, this will take a while and I don’t know if we have that kind of time before they destroy the greatest country God ever put together since the Garden of Eden! Realize now, we can’t give up but we must start now! So again I ask you to think about what we need to do and do it — together!
