Reader criticizes Knox legislator

Dear Editor:

I am from Blount County, not Knoxville, but I still feel the need to say that Stacey Campfield is an idiot who makes everyone in this state look stupid.

Voters need to wake up.

It is an embarrassment that other Americans hear or see his moronic comments/bills and thus form their opinions of Tennessee.

Last month, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said Republicans have “... to stop being the stupid party ...”

Gov. Jindal’s comments could have been said directly to Campfield!

Stacey Campfield spews nonsense in a bid to attract media attention by appealing to the ignorance of the mob mentality. He makes a spectacle of himself and, rather unfortunately, attracts this same negative attention to our great state.

He needs to go.

Speaking of things that do not make sense, I want to join the many other county residents in urging the County Commission to set up staffed recycle drop-off centers.

It is possible for aluminum can recycling to pay for the rest of the programs, if managed properly. More people are likely to recycle if they are not required to sort their bottles, cans, etc. Having a bottle bill with an easy return at grocery stores is another proven tactic.

The centers need to be staffed because people with no integrity will drop off their household garbage to avoid paying for solid waste services, and ruin recycling for all the good people of this county.

We need recycling for Styrofoam, aluminum, glass, plastics (not just bottles!), bags, cardboard and paper. Let’s quit acting like we live in the stone ages. We need to look extensively at how it is done with success in other states and communities.
