Reader opposes tax for budget failure
Here we go again. Year after year, I have personally watched our Blount County commissioners spend money without regard to the budget they passed for the current fiscal year. Then when it comes time to pass a new budget for the upcoming fiscal year, they act “surprised” when they have a budget deficit.
Before our county commissioners have even prepared, much less presented, to the taxpayers a 2014 budget to examine; now our commissioners want the Blount County taxpayers to spend another $85,000 to hold a special election on June 11 to approve a $35 Wheel Tax.
After our county commissioners have, year after year, ignored the budget they had supposedly set, and “acting surprised” when they discover that they “mysteriously” have more than an $8 million budget shortfall, they have the political gall to ask the taxpayers to bail them out of their gross mismanagement with higher property taxes, higher sales taxes and a $35 wheel tax.
Well, I hope that the voters and taxpayers of Blount County will join with me when I say, “Failure to have a budget on your part, does not constitute a need to pay higher taxes on my part.” Vote “no” on approving the wheel tax.
