Reader says county does need road money
Dear Editor:
The mess we have in Homestead in development is going to cost the taxpayers $1 million in tax money to repair.
Our Blount County superintendent should have never accepted the development’s road into the county. He played politics and said when the county wanted to have the sales tax increase for a vote, that the county department didn’t need money for the highway and roads, that if we voted for it, he would give his part to the schools.
Come up East Millers Cove Road and take a look at it. Nothing but chuckholes and patches, two one-lane bridges that are about to fall in. Since he doesn’t need the money, he shouldn’t have a problem repairing Long Rifle Road with only one full-time resident living there.
I guess he will take Three Sisters development roads when they are done, winding straight up a steep mountain. Developers love to turn the roads over to the county. It makes selling the lots easier, since the owners of lots don’t have to keep the bad roads up. The taxpayers will pay for this mess.
