School Resource Officers a success
Outrage at the Connecticut schoo1 shootings is justified. As Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly said, “What happened there was pure evil.” The shooter tried to buy a gun but was denied. He stole and used an AR-15, not (contrary to media rants) capable of delivering automatic (spray or burst) fire; it is semi-automatic like many hunting rifles — you fire one bullet per trigger pull. Machine guns have been illegal in the United States since 1934, and since the 1980s, it has been illegal to manufacture and sell any automatic weapon.
Laws are in place to prevent gun ownership by mentally ill. The anti-gun/anti-NRA crowd won’t let any crisis go to waste and suggest “common sense” to legitimize their ideas. There are deranged people out there that can go to any school. There are 300 million guns out there that deranged people can get. Which of Mr. Obama’s executive orders would have made a difference in Connecticut or will prevent a mass school/theater/mall, etc., shooting tomorrow?
Outlaw ammo clips that hold more than 10 cartridges (shooters can change clips in sec) — No. Outlaw assault rifles — No. Since being made illegal in Chicago there have been more people murdered than all the fatalities of coalition forces in Afghanistan. Treat deranged people — No. Pass more laws that will only be obeyed by law-abiding citizens — No.
To stop bad guys with guns you put highly trained, armed school resource officers (SROs), citizens, law officers, ex-military and/or school staff (good guys) inside and outside schools tomorrow, like Blount County.
This approach is being rapidly implemented across the country just as NRA recommended.
It is mind-boggling that Mr. Obama said he will be judged on how he protects children while funding infanticide/abortion.
