Use more TVA power for lower rate?
Dear Editor:
As I paid my utility bill for last month, I thought about TVA’s slight rate increase for May. They also had a slight increase in April. TVA said because of the mild winter we had, they had a loss of $93 million in the first quarter.
What happened to “raise your thermostat in the summer and lower it in the winter to save electricity.” If we all cut back on the amount we use and TVA raises the rate, how does saving help the consumer?
We need to use the natural resources we have, oil, gas and coal, so that the electricity can be cheaper to produce. Before we can use the resources we have we will have to go to war with the EPA.
The EPA, with the blessing of the current administration, has said they will “crucify” the oil and gas companies like the ancient Romans did in order to bring them under control and have power over them. Maybe someone could give these tree-hugging morons a copy of “The Fall of the Roman Empire” so they can see these tactics did not work then and will not work now.
Alternative energy, solar and wind, is what the government thinks is the future for our country. Silicon Ranch near Memphis, owned by former Gov. Phil Bredesen, reported it can produce enough electricity for 100 homes for one year. If the average electric bill for each home is $200 a month, it will take 17½ years to pay the $4.3 million cost for this company. A solar farm at Stanton, owned and operated by the University of Tennessee, produces enough power for 500 homes. The cost was $30.2 million, 25 years to pay for this company. Neither company sounds like a good investment unless the government gives them our tax dollars (Solyndra).
