Wars are blamed for our big debt
The Iraq war began 10 years ago today. We can sadly reflect on the 190,000 lives lost and the cost of at least $2.2 trillion. Among the Bush and Chaney lies about weapons of mass destruction was a claim that the war would cost $50 to $60 billion and that Iraq oil would pay for it. The true cost of the war was hidden from us and kept off the budget. The war was run on the American credit card by borrowing billions, now the bills are due to be paid.
We will be paying for this war for decades and it is costing us $12 billion a year to compensate veterans and their families. Forty years after the Vietnam war the costs are $22 billion annually and rising. World War II ended 46 years ago and is still costing $5 billion annually.
Now the Republican tea sippers want to balance the budget and cut the deficit which the war created. That is a lofty goal but they want to do this on the backs of that hated 47 percent of poor and middle class. Cut their Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and food stamps.
Bush and Chaney should apologize to the American people for their lies and misleading us into this war. Where are the weapons of mass destruction? In their lying mouths.
