A 25-year-old Maryville man was in serious condition and a suspect was in custody on Sunday night after a stabbing on Saturday night during an altercation on Twins Way.

Christopher Jenkins was flown by Lifestar to the University of Tennessee Medical Center shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday following a fight between him and another man at a residence on Twins Way at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday.

Marian O'Briant, public information officer for the Blount County Sheriff's Office, said Steven Coles, 19, was taken into custody by Blount County Sheriff's deputies on Sunday. Coles' address was not available on Sunday night.

She said a warrant had been filed charging him with aggravated assault, and detectives were questioning him at the Blount County Jail. Coles was being held in lieu of a $10,000 bond pending a 9 a.m. Friday hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court.

The stabbing occurred at a residence on Twins Way, which is off of Reagan Mill Road in the area of Calderwood Highway.

Several of Jenkins' friends then loaded him into a truck and drove him to a Lee Thompson Lane residence, O'Briant said. Lee Thompson Lane is off Six Mile Road and is also in the area of Calderwood Highway.

"Jenkins collapsed upon arrival," O'Briant said.

Blount County Sheriff's deputies set up a landing zone at the Lanier Elementary School football field, and Rural/Metro Ambulance Service met Lifestar at the landing zone with Jenkins.

Jenkins was in critical condition after the incident, but a UT Medical Center representative said he was in serious condition on Sunday night.

The stabbing occurred during an altercation between Jenkins and Coles, O'Briant said. She said Coles had been identified as a suspect after the incident on Saturday night, and deputies found Coles at a Twins Way residence on Sunday.

O'Briant said additional information would be released as it becomes available and said the investigation is ongoing.
