AAUW branch celebrates 65 years in Maryville
American Association of Univ. Women Maryville Branch
Sixty-five years ago, the American Association of University Women Maryville Branch began working on advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research. Celebrating this accomplishment in the AAUW Maryville Branch history will occur on Monday at the Proffitt Dining Room on the Maryville College campus.

The celebration will begin at 5:30 p.m. Installation of officers, games, food and birthday cake will be part of the program. A "Buffalo Auction" (trash and treasures) will be the highlight of events for the evening, so bring extra cash to participate in this activity. All funds will benefit the AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund, which provides funding and support for individuals seeking redress from sexual discrimination.

Cost of the catered buffet is $12. RSVP to Rebecca Vial at rvial53163@charter.net or 379-8049. Prepay by check to Rebecca Vial, P.O. Box 4326, Maryville, TN 37802, or after RSVP pay at the door.

Several milestones that have been reinforced this year are the Sister-to-Sister Summit and the Crystal Award. The former encourages tweens and teens to be all that they can be and the latter recognizes one that has become and given to the community.

Women's Equity Foundation is a supporting organization of AAUW Maryville. It is a nonprofit organization that promotes the status of women. Harri Ropp is the president of this organization.

The Maryville Branch has been recognized at the state convention for its contribution of excellence in promoting women and equity issues.

Outgoing and incoming officers will be recognized at the celebration event. Charlotte Crawford, president, and Rebecca Vial, vice president of programs, will be relinquishing their positions to Vandy Kemp, president and Nancy Heintz and Marilee Fogelson, co-vice presidents of programs.

Members past and present are encouraged to attend this important landmark in AAUW Maryville Branch history. Founded in 1881, AAUW is a national organization of 100,000 members and 1,300 branches. AAUW Maryville Branch was founded in 1943 and has sponsored activities promoting the advancement of women and girls throughout its history.
