Incumbent Clayton G. Bledsoe was re-elected and newcomer Ken White was elected to his first term on Alcoa City Commission Tuesday night.
Incumbent George Williams, who was seeking his third term on the commission, lost by a mere 34 votes, according to unofficial returns.
Bledsoe, who lives on Huxley Street in Alcoa, has been on the commission for six years and won another four-year term. He was the top vote getter with 1,884 votes, which was 35 percent of the total.
The second vote getter was White, who lives on Frary Street in Alcoa. He received 1,791 votes, or 33 percent of the total vote.
Williams received 1,757 votes, which was 32 percent of the total.
After the results were announced, Bledsoe said, “I feel good. I had a lot of help, I knew it would be close. I had a lot of good people working for me.”
He also said he hated to see Williams lose and that Williams and White both worked hard campaigning.
White said “it was too close for comfort. I just appreciate that the people had the confidence and trust to elect me.
“I’ve got a lot of learning to do in this job. My goal is to be fair and consistent. It will be an honor to serve the citizens of Alcoa as a member of this commission,” White said.
Williams said, “My public service is one of my greatest joys next to my children. I thank the people of Alcoa for letting me serve them these many years. I think Ken White will do an outstanding job.”
