A Blount County man is suing a Maryville drug store for $2.5 million in compensatory damages because the pharmacy allegedly filled his prescriptions incorrectly and poisoned him.David McCammon and his wife, Virginia McCammon, filed suit Thursday in Blount County Circuit Court against pharmacists Steve Myers, Steve Caldwell and Lowe's Drugs Inc., 1536 E. Broadway Ave.David McCammon alleged that from March to August last year pharmacists gave him more Dilantin, an anti-convulsant medication, than his doctor prescribed.
Caldwell, who was at the pharmacy on Friday, had no comment.
McCammon claims the pharmacists gave him 300 milligram pills instead of the 200 milligram pills prescribed. In the suit, he stated blood tests from August show toxicity levels for Dilantin higher than what is considered therapeutic.
McCammon said he started having symptoms in July indicative of a neurological problem: headaches, ear pain, ringing in his ears and problems with his vision. He had problems with his balance, his gait and couldn't walk up steps. He lost 20 pounds and had problems with his speech.
He alleged he's incurred medical bills for Dilantin poisoning. McCammon stated that he's not been able to work since August.
According to the lawsuit, "David McCammon's life has been dramatically changed as a result of the Dilantin poisoning he experienced."
