PARIS, Tenn. — A man on a four-wheeler lost control after having a seizure and plowed into a crowd along a parade route Friday injuring 13 people — including an 18-month-old, authorities say.
The incident happened around noon in Paris, a small town 120 miles northwest of Nashville near the Kentucky border, at an annual event dubbed the “World’s Biggest Fish Fry.”
Mike Shankle, director of Emergency Medical Services for Henry County Medical Center, said the man on the four-wheeler was following a float just as the parade was ending when he lost control and slammed into the crowd.Shankle said the man ran into an 18-month-old girl who was seated in a stroller. She was transferred to Vanderbilt’s children’s hospital in Nashville with serious injuries, Shankle said.
“We feel like as bad as it is, we’ve come out on the good end of this,” Shankle said. “We feel lucky there weren’t more injured.”
Tory Daughrity, spokeswoman for the Henry County Medical Center, said most of the 13 treated had minor injuries and were released.
Police were questioning the man and did not immediately release his identity. Shankle said the man had a “history of seizures” though he did not know what kind.
