A 26-year-old Townsend man was injured at around 10 p.m. Monday when a vehicle hit his bicycle and fled the scene. The man was the second bicyclist to be involved in a traffic accident in the last month on Lovers Lane.
Blount County Sheriff's deputies responded to Blount Memorial Hospital at about midnight on the report of a hit and run. Upon arrival they spoke to Trenton L. Moore, 26, Lovers Lane, Townsend.
Moore said he was riding his bicycle in the 490 block of Lovers Lane at about 10 p.m. when a vehicle began driving toward him in the oncoming lane. As the vehicle got close, Moore said it "swerved toward him and struck the left side of his handle bars, causing him to wreck."Moore described the vehicle to be dark colored, either brown or tan, with fog lights. He said it was a full-size vehicle with large mud tires and may possibly be a Chevrolet Suburban or Ford Bronco. He said there was a spare tire on the back of the vehicle.
"He said he could hear several people laughing and yelling at him from the vehicle," the report said. "After the vehicle struck him, it pulled over and drove up a gravel driveway next to the old gas station (on Lovers Lane)."
Deputies checked the area for the suspect vehicle, but were unable to locate it.
The victim was treated at Blount Memorial Hospital for internal injuries and multiple lacerations to his face, arms and mouth, the report said.
According to Blount Memorial Hospital staff, Moore was treated and released.
Moore told deputies that he believes the vehicle "intentionally" hit him. Anyone with information on Monday night's incident should immediately call the Blount County Sheriff's Officer 24-hour crime hot line at 273-5200.
