A Maryville man took authorities on a chase that hit 90 miles per hour through Alcoa and Maryville on Tuesday.

Jacob Allen Reynolds, 23, Griffitt Street, Maryville, was arrested by Blount County Sheriff's deputies on a charge of evading arrest (felony).

Deputy Kevin Clendenen saw Reynolds speeding in a black 1995 Chevy Camaro Z28 on Lincoln Road on noon Tuesday.Clendenen's radar showed Reynolds driving 65 miles per hour in a 30 mile-per-hour zone, according to a sheriff's office report. The deputy hit his emergency lights and pursued. Reynolds accelerated and turned onto North Everett High Road, then went to the roundabout and turned onto East Harper Avenue. He continued to evade the deputy, running a stop sign and reaching speeds of 80 and 90 miles per hour.

The chase lasted about 6 to 8 minutes, Clendenen stated.

The deputy lost sight of Reynolds as he neared Aluminum Avenue. A witness spotted the speeding driver and tipped off authorities, however.

"Jacob Reynolds pulled into an alleyway on Griffitt Street, got out of the car, and pulled the tag off the car and folded it up and threw it behind the house," according to the report.

Reynolds was taken into custody and released on a $5,000 bond pending a 9 a.m. June 22 hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court.
