The City of Maryville Police Department will offer the nationally recognized Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) course free of charge July 9, 10 and 11. The three-day, 12-hour course is part of the Police Department's Community Policing program to citizens.
The objective of the course is to develop and enhance options of self-defense to a woman who is attacked. The class will be hosted by the Maryville Police Department and taught by certified RAD instructors.RAD is based on a defense system that does not require extensive training or exceptional physical prowess. The course has been taught on college campuses across the nation, as well as to women's groups, including senior citizens.
The RAD class will take place at the Maryville Police Department located at the Maryville Municipal Center, 400 West Broadway Avenue. The July 9 and July 10 classes will be held from 6-9 p.m. The final class on July 11 will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Maryville High School.
Advance registration is required due to the limited class size. Those interested must come to the Maryville Police Department to register. For details, call Sgt. Jason Barham at 977-6964.
