Jerome B. Fincher, Sr.
Jerome B. Fincher, Sr., 71, passed away at Vanderbilt Medical Center on June 22, 2009. He is survived by two sons, Jerry Fincher of Maryville, and Neal Fincher of Reno, Nev., and three grandchildren, Joshua Fincher of Maryville, Megan Fincher and Sarah Fincher of Reno, Nev. Kenneth L. "Dad" Hodson, 87, of Maryville, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was an army veteran of WWII, serving in North Africa and Italy. He retired from ALCOA in 1973 after 34 years of service. He was a member of Central Baptist Church of Alcoa. He graduated from Maryville High School in 1942. He was the Captain of the football team, and was selected to the All-Blount County Team for three years in a row. He was active in youth sports programs, coaching many teams throughout the 1950s and 1960s. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fly fisherman taking many trophy fish from the streams and lakes of East Tennessee. He enjoyed travel, and visiting with his army buddies across the country. He was preceded in death by wife, Mary Ruth Hackworth Hodson. He is survived by wife, Darlene McCall Hodson; sons, Steve and wife Alicia, Ken and wife Sandy, and Brad; grandchildren, Bethany and Rick Pope, Chad and Morgan Hodson, Kari Hodson, Matt and Kadena Hodson, and Jacob Hodson; great-grandchildren, Connor and Mackenzie Pope, Darcy Hodson and Aiden Hodson; sisters-in-law, Fanny Taylor of Florida and Eloise Hackworth of Powell; and several nieces and nephews; stepchildren, Rowdy and Regina McCall, Teresa and Mark Karimian, Tammy and Jim Atkins; stepgrandchildren, Ricky and Wesley Hall, Rowdy McCall III, and Tiffany, Yasmin and Cameron Karimian. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. Greg Kelly and Rev. George Gilbert officiating. Lenora Reed Cannida Lowery age 81 of Alcoa, died June 20, 2009, at a local hospital. She was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Alcoa. She was a retired employee of Allied Chemical Company in Knoxville, and is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Lowery.
Survivors include three sons, Rev. Simon Bill (Kelly) Cannida Jr. of Knoxville, George S. (Margie) Canida II of Baltimore, Md., and Shannon Levandor Cannida of Alcoa; one daughter, Nancy Cannida Lenior of Knoxville; three sisters, two brothers, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Thursday June 24, 2009, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Foothills Funeral Home with Rev. Fred Harris officiating. Marjorie (Margie) Elgin McCammon of Maryville entered the presence of God on Tuesday, June 23, 2009. She was a longtime member of Broadway United Methodist Church, Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class, and United Methodist Women. Margie was a graduate of Knoxville High School and The University of Tennessee, where she was a member of Chi Omega Fraternity. A classroom teacher at The Calvert Methods School in Durham, N.C., she was also a board member of The Blount County Children's Home, president of The Maryville Cotillion and a member of The Maryville Junior Service League. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Raleigh (A.R.) McCammon, Jr.; parents, L. Sloan and Nancy Y. Elgin; brother, Lester S. Elgin, Jr. of Knoxville; and sister, Dorothy E. Cross of Chattanooga. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Arthur Raleigh (Rol) III and Katherine (Kiki) L. McCammon, Knoxville; and daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela (Pam) M. and John C. Davis, Rogersville, and Mary Nell (Mimi) M. and Frederic (Fred) John Bury III, Louisville. She also leaves grandchildren, Joseph Browning (Brown) Parrott, Knoxville, Raleigh Virginia Parrott, California, Frederic John Bury, IV, John Arthur Bury, Arthur Raleigh McCammon IV, and Elgin (Ellie) Ayres McCammon, all of Knoxville. Nieces include Carla C. Hill, Florida and Carol C. O'Deay, Oregon. A celebration of her life will be held at Broadway United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Friday with Rev. Amy Probst officiating. Ms. Akemi Toku Miller, 70, of Maryville, died June 17, 2009, at her daughter's home in Jacksonville, N.C. Ms. Miller was born in Kagoshima, Japan, on Feb. 9, 1939. She lived in Okinawa, Japan, for many years and loved the culture of Okinawa and enjoyed the relationships with the people she met there. In 1976, Ms. Miller moved to the United States and became a citizen of the country that she loved. Throughout her time here, she often wore American flag pins to show her patriotism to this country. Her life was spent showering love on her daughter and granddaughters, baking for her family and friends, hand-making beautiful Japanese silk dolls, and creating knitted and crocheted gifts for others. Ms. Miller was also a great lover of animals; she enjoyed spoiling her granddogs, Lobo, Peanut, and Doc, and her cat of 19 years, Neko. She is predeceased by her parents, Uchiteru Anraku and Tomi Toku; as well as brothers, Yomitsu Anraku and Taketsugu Toku. She is survived by daughter, Sandra Crane, and son-in-law Brent Crane of Jacksonville; granddaughters, Stefanie and Samantha Horne of Jacksonville; brother, Takeno Anraku and his wife Michiko of Tokyo, Japan; and two nephews and one niece in Tokyo, Japan.Mildred Jean Coggins Phillips
