Kenneth G. Abbott, age 69, of Maryville, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the family home. He retired from the City of Maryville Fire Department with 28 years of service. He served as Fire Chief from 1988 to 1994. Preceded in death by father, Harold Bruce Abbott; mother, Ethel Sellers Abbott Mynatt; stepfather, Kenneth Mynatt. Survivors include son, Kenny Abbott of Maryville; daughter and son-in-law, Debby and Tom Leonard of Maryville; grandchildren, Mallory, Madeline and Bella Leonard; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jane and Glenn Perkins of Maryville and Carol and Ron Combs of Maryville; several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends at a Celebration of his Life from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2009, at the Smithview Pavilion and Event Center. FERGUSON, KEITH K., 85, Evansville, Ind., died Saturday, June 27, at VNA Charlier Hospice Center. He was born at Copperhill, Tenn. Survivors: wife, Josephine Mays Ferguson; sons, Steve and Tom; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Vernon, Fenton and Gayle; sisters, Neysa and Brenda. Tanner Lee Jameson (Bones) age 13, of Maryville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 26, 2009. This beautiful young child was an active member of Eagleton Middle School Baseball and Basketball Teams. He was currently playing for the Blount Storm Traveling Baseball Team. Tanner loved the outdoors and would always help out around the house. He had just finished putting a flower bed in front of the house. He was a member of Praise Temple Assembly of God. Lora B. Jent, age 85, of Nashville, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. Mrs. Jent was born in Happy Valley to Albert and Martha Boone, one of 12 children. Mrs. Jent was educated in Blount County Schools, including the two-room school in Happy Valley. She was raised in and became a member of Happy Valley Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Jent began working in Knoxville before World War II and met her husband, Homer, there. She worked at Y-12 Defense Plant during World War II until the war ended. Mrs. Jent married Homer on Jan. 14, 1948. She was very proud of being a housewife and mother and experienced her greatest joy in caring for and being with her family. She was an avid fly fisherman in the Smokies as well as Montana. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Paul, Virgil, Daniel, and Carl Boone; sisters, Dora, Lena Mae, Faye, and Imogene. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Homer Jent; son, Montana State Senator Larry Jent of Bozman, Mont.; sisters, Hazel Hyden of Indiana and Mabel Eisenhower of South Carolina; and 47 nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Happy Valley Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Clifton Hearon officiating. The interment will follow in the church cemetery.
