Sylvan to hold workshop on transitions
Sylvan Learning Center will hold a seminar entitled "Transitions: Middle and High School," from 6 to 8 p.m. July 24 at the Sylvan Learning Center located at 9050 Executive Park Drive, Building A Suite 100 in Knoxville.
The free, 90-minute parent workshop was created to help parents work with their tweens and teens to develop academic skills, habits and attitudes that lead to a successful school transition.

History Detective Camp will be held July 13-17, from 9 a.m. to noon for children 10-13 at Blount Mansion Visitors Center, located at 200 W. Hill Ave. in Knoxville.
Students will use the resources of Blount Mansion to learn about and experience life in the 1790s. Detectives will learn firsthand how to use historical materials to bring history to life in new and meaningful ways.
Activities will include tours of the mansion, group games and activities, special guest speakers and Internet activities.

SKIT Productions is now registering for its summer Triple Threat Broadway Musical classes. The two-week program will provide theater training for children ages 5-18 in singing, dancing, and acting. Members will work on several scenes from famous Broadway musicals and the Kamp will conclude with a showcase theater performance. Kamp Broadway will be held from 9 a.m. to noon July 20-23 and July 27-30 at Pellissippi State Blount County campus, 1010 Middlesettlements Road. Tuition is $125 per week with a $15 registration fee. The Creative Discovery Museum in Chattanooga will hold its ninth annual Honey Harvest from noon to 4 p.m. July 25 and 26. Guests will learn about the art of beekeeping, the life of a bee and how honey is made. Visitors can observe beekeepers working in the museum's own on-site hive and see how honey is extracted from the comb. Activities will also include rolling beeswax candles, creating honey lip balm and making honey soap. All activities are free with museum admission.
The museum is open every day from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $9.95 for children and adults. It is located at 321 Chestnut St., Chattanooga. For more information, call 423-756-2738 or visit www.cdmfun.org.
