Article published Jun 30, 2009 Another mailbox ornament stolen
Dear Editor:
Several years ago, our children gave my husband a beautiful statue of an eagle for his birthday. We named her "Victory" and placed her on top of our mailbox. She was very heavy and beautifully painted. Her wings were down and she was perched on a rock, so we knew she had no idea of taking flight. However, one Sunday morning, we awoke to find her gone. It was not a happy day for us.
Like Mr. Wilbur S. Lawson of Maryville, we would like to alert the people of Maryville that there are thieves amongst us. Maybe, just maybe, they might be good hearted ones and Mr. Slawson's "whirly gig" and our Victory could miraculously reappear! Wouldn't that be nice? Then our neighbors wouldn't be driving around looking for the houses of thieves.
