A storm went through Blount County early early Wednesday, causing power outages in Maryville and in the county.
About 1,800 Maryville Electric Department customers were without power for two hours.
Lightning hit an electric pole off Foothills Mall Drive, which caused a breaker to lock out, said Maryville Public Information Officer Pam Arnett.Power was out from 4 to 6 a.m.
Areas affected were Lamar Alexander Parkway, West Broadway Avenue to the U.S. 129 Bypass, Foch Street and parts of East Broadway and East Harper avenues.
This involved several traffic signals.
Two outages were also reported by Alcoa Electric Department.
Alcoa Customer Services Supervisor Troy Morgan said a tree limb knocked out three spans of wire at 4:29 a.m. on Old Chilhowee Road. The power was back on in three hours and affected 15 people.
A second outage happened at 3:17 a.m. on Quails Nest Court in Seymour. Wet vines got on a transformer and grounded it out.
This affected 40 customers and lasted for 20 minutes, Morgan said.
