THIRD INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION -- Jeremy Rifkin, president and founder of the Foundation on Economic Trends, will speak at the inaugural event for the University of Tennessee Center for the Study of Social Justice at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the University Center Ballroom. Rifkin -- named by The National Journal as one of the 150 people in the U.S. who have the most influence in shaping federal government policy -- has written 17 books on scientific and technological changes and their impact on the environment, the economy and society. His most recent best-selling book, "The European Dream," was named the best economic book of the year in 2005. Rifkin's lecture, "Leading the Way to the Third Industrial Revolution," focuses on the argument that society needs to radically overhaul the way in which energy is consumed.
