The Capitol Theatre

Photos of the auditorium of The Capitol Theatre, 127 W. Broadway Ave. in downtown Maryville. After several decades, the Capitol will feature a performance tonight (Sept. 26) as part of the Last Friday Art Walk in downtown Maryville.

Capitol Theatre owner Heath Claiborne bought the building in 2002.

Patrons at the Capitol can dine at the facility in addition to enjoying a performance. The "dinner theater" is available for rent by organizations and businesses.

Capitol owner Heath Claiborne acquired the facility in 2002 for $165,000, but the renovations he's made to the old theater have cost that much and more, he said. The lighting system alone cost more than $100,000.

A state-of-the-art sound system will allow the Capitol to host any number of events, from music concerts to movie screenings to dramatic productions.

The theater's floor seating can be removed to make room for dancing ... as will be the case tonight (Sept. 26) when swing dancers twirl to the music of The Streamliners.
