A Saturday house party in Maryville ended badly early Sunday morning when a man allegedly attacked the owner of the house with a pocket knife, saying he was going to kill him.

According to a Maryville Police report, the altercation was broken up when the wife of the home’s owner got a baseball bat and started swinging it at the alleged assailant.

At 5:35 a.m., the man, Tony Lee Morton, 39, Wrights Road, Maryville, reportedly got angry for “no reason” and said he was going to kill Randy T. Williamson, 48, Landau Drive, Maryville. Morton allegedly took out his pocket knife and tried to stab the man. Williamson told police that when he put up his arm to deflect the attack, the pinky finger on his right hand was cut by the knife.

According to the report, Williamson told police that the fight continued until his wife brought out the baseball bat. At that point, Morton reportedly decided to leave the house, pushing open the front storm door so hard that it broke the door frame and knocked the glass out of the door.

Williamson then told police that Morton got into a truck, backed down the street and accelerated it forward so fast that the “tires were spinning”, before slamming it into the back of Williamson’s vehicle — which was parked in his front yard.

Officers responding to the scene of the incident reported seeing the tire marks on the street “where it appeared that the suspect accelerated his truck and rammed into the victim’s car.”

Officers also noted damage done to Williamson’s vehicle, which was estimated at $1,600.

According to the report, officers located Morton at 1807 Madison Ave., in Maryville. They noted the metal bumper on the front of his truck had fresh maroon paint on the left side — apparently from where it allegedly hit Williamson’s vehicle.

Morton was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and vandalism of more than $500.

He was being held in lieu of a $15,000 bond pending a 9 a.m. Oct. 23 hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court.
