Meet for gateway communities to be Thursday at library

A town hall meeting to discuss tourism will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Blount County Public Library.

In partnership with the University of Tennessee, Middle Tennessee State University, National Geographic and the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, a Great Smoky Mountains Sustainable Tourism Summit has been scheduled April 28-29, 2008, at UT.

In preparation for the summit, five town hall forums are being held in the region to discuss tourism issues impacting the Smokies and its gateway communities, including Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge Sevierville, Alcoa, Maryville, Townsend, Knoxville, Newport, Cosby and Pittman Center.

The forums will begin a community dialogue and identify issues for the experts to address at the summit.

Garner Circle water outage Thursday

South Blount Utility District will have a water outage on Garner Circle from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, weather permitting, while work is done on the waterline.
