Retraction and Apology
Dear readers:Based on new information, we have concluded that there were errors in an article in The Daily Times in the Oct. 28, 2007, edition headlined “Never-Ending Saga” concerning a divorce case involving James C. Wright and Kathy Wright.
As a result, we are making these corrections to set the record straight:
The article reported that Kathy Wright only received $1,000 per month in court-ordered child support. Actually, Mr. Wright is also making the mortgage payment, utilities, taxes and insurance on the marital residence, according to the Permanent Parenting Plan. Additionally, Mrs. Wright agreed in the Parenting Plan that the amount of child support, while not conforming to Tennessee Child Support Guidelines, was in the best interest of the children because of payment on the marital residence exceeds the amount of child support under the guidelines. Additionally, there are three children, not two, and both Mr. and Mrs. Wright agreed that all major decisions regarding the minor children would be made jointly. Custody of the minor children was essentially joint.
Regarding accusations of domestic assault against Mr. Wright, the ex-wife signed a pleading indicating there was no abuse, according to court records. The issue of physical abuse was not an issue raised by either party before Judge W. Dale Young. Furthermore, no judge has held a contested hearing or made any finding as would relate to domestic abuse. All orders of protection were entered by agreement of Mr. and Mrs. Wright without finding of fact, without hearing, without testimony, and without admission.
Any implication that the Blount County Circuit Judge did not issue an order of protection despite charges of domestic assault, an indictment or criminal trial is retracted.
The Daily Times has learned that Judge Dale Workman of Knox County has not issued an order of protection for Mr. Wright. The Daily Times retracts that part of the story.
We regret these errors and apologize to Mr. Wright, his family and to all our readers.
Sincerely,
Max Crotser
