Boaters license course scheduled

From Staff Reports

A free boaters driving license class will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, June 4 and 5, at Alcoa Good Times Kawasaki Yamaha at 2019 Topside Road, Alcoa.

Persons born after Jan. 1, 1989, must have a boaters driving license to operate any type of Jetski, Waverunner, jet boat or ski/wake boat.

The class is free but class members must purchase a permit to take a test which is available where fishing licenses are sold.

To receive a license, participants must be 12 years old, but 11-year-olds can take the test and, if they pass, receive a license on their birthday from Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

Applicants must provide name, age, date of birth, phone number and email contact,

On the first night, participants will receive a boaters safety book or it can be obtained in advance at any drivers testing sight office.

Students attending the class are advised to bring a highlighter or pen to use in the book. Participants need to study the book after the first night because the test will be administered on the second night. The test will be graded that night and participants will know if they passed.

If they pass, participants will get a temporary license until they receive a permanent license in the mailed from TWRA. The license never has to be renewed.
