Man injured at Bluffs trapped in car after wreck

While being rushed to the hospital for injuries sustained while diving, a Rockford man was involved in a traffic accident that pinned him in the vehicle on Sunday.

Maryville Police Department Crash Investigator Donnie Carroll said the wreck occurred at 4:03 p.m. on West Lamar Alexander Parkway at West Broadway Avenue. Gregory L. Cannon, 46, Beacon Way, Rockford, was in critical condition following the crash, and his two stepsons were also injured.

Carroll said Cannon’s stepson, Brian Keith Adams, 20, Beacon Way, Rockford, was traveling eastbound on West Lamar Alexander Parkway. Cannon was injured while diving from the Bluffs at Fort Loudoun Lake near Fort Loudoun Dam and Adams was attempting to take him to the hospital. Brian Adams’ brother, Kevin R. Adams, 26, Beacon Way, was also in the vehicle.

Brian Adams, who was driving a 1996 Dodge Avenger, attempted to make a left turn onto West Broadway Avenue from West Lamar Alexander Parkway. Carroll said he “pulled into the travel path” of Annie N. Williams, 19, Dixon, and Adams was “failing to yield the right of way.” The two vehicles collided at the intersection.

Brian Adams’ vehicle continued traveling and struck another vehicle, driven by Leli M. Crowe, 16, Summer Drive, Friendsville, who was driving a Volkswagen Beetle. Crowe was stopped on West Broadway Avenue and was “preparing to make a right turn on westbound Lamar Alexander Parkway.”

Cannon, who was a backseat passenger in the Avenger, “was trapped and extricated” from the vehicle by Maryville firefighters.

Cannon was taken by Rural/Metro Ambulance Service to University of Tennessee Medical Center where he was in critical condition. Carroll said it was unclear if his traumatic injuries were caused by the crash or from diving at the Bluffs.

Brian and Kevin Adams were both taken by Rural/Metro Ambulance Service to Blount Memorial Hospital where they were being treated for injuries sustained in the crash.
No one was cited or charged by Maryville police officers at the time of the crash.
