Frances Marie Chambers

Frances Marie Chambers, age 88, of Maryville, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2008, at Asbury Place. She was a member of Broadway Baptist Church. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, in the Smith Trinity Chapel with Dr. Benic Hampton officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery. Dennis Edward Cooper

Dennis Edward Cooper died June 23, 2008, at the family home after a brief illness. He was born on October 18, 1952, in Blount County. Dennis and Shirley shared 33 years of loving memories together, in good times and bad times. His love will always be in her heart, forever. Dennis loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time working on race cars with his friends and family. He had a special place in his heart for animals and leaves behind his loyal dog, “Baby”. Preceded in death by parents, Dewey and Margaret Cooper. Survived by beloved wife, Shirley; devoted son, Curtis; daughter-in-law, Pam; granddaughter, Erin; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and John Smith; grandchildren, Chelsea and Jonathon; sister, Pat Word, and brother-in-law Randy; brother and sister-in-law, Leslie and Linda Gass of Whittier, N.C.; step-son, Raymond Lewis of Maryville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dennis leaves behind many special friends, Stella Pilkington, Jerry Hodge, John Cutshaw, Anna Mae Price, Bruce Rhyne, Eddie and Terry Cogburn, Gary Estes, and many more. Donald DeLong

Donald DeLong, age 52, of Maryville, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2008, at Blount Memorial Hospital after a long illness. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Thursday, June 26, 2008, at the Smithview Pavilion and Event Center. Funeral service 3 p.m. with Rev. Rick Higginbotham officiating. Christopher Michael Dyke

Christopher Michael Dyke, 33, of Athens, went to be with our Heavenly Father Sunday morning, June 22, 2008. He was a loving father, brother, son, and a great friend to all who knew him. He was of the Baptist faith and was employed at Waupaca Foundries in Etowah. A native of Blount County and resident of McMinn County most of his life. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Betty Walker of Crossville; paternal grandparents, Lela Dawn and Walter Blain Dyke of Maryville; two uncles, Jack Dyke of Greenback and Bobby Gene Dyke of Maryville; and one cousin, Todd Blain Dyke, also of Maryville. Survivors: two sons, Christopher Baylee Dyke and Bradlee Austin Dyke, both of Athens; father and step-mother, Bill (Butch) and Denise Dyke, Athens; mother and step-father, Jan and Paul King, Decatur; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy and Gloria Dyke, Riceville, Jeremy Dyke, Athens; one sister, Lacie Dyke, Athens; several aunts, uncles and cousins, who will miss him as well. Funeral Services will be 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008, in the Chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Couch and Joe Eaton officiating. Dr. Gordon McCall

Dr. Gordon McCall, age 74, of Maryville passed away Monday, June 23, 2008, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and a member of Alcoa First Baptist Church. He enjoyed raising cattle and tending the family farm throughout his life. He graduated from Lanier High School, University of Tennessee Knoxville, and University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis. He practiced medicine in Blount County for over 35 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harrison and Isa Porter McCall. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Judy Mills McCall; daughters and sons-in-law, Kim McCall and Mark Ellison of Maryville, Christy and Brian King of Lenoir City, Sherri and Andy Self of Maryville; grandchildren, Sarah and Katie Lynn King, Jude Ellison, Tyler and Jake Self; brother and sister-in-law, James and Wilma McCall; nephews, Jim McCall, Paul and wife, Tarra McCall. Funeral service 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008, Smith Trinity Chapel with Dr. Doug Sager officiating. The family and friends will assemble at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2008, at Grandview Mausoleum for the entombment. Fred H. Metz, Jr.

Fred H. Metz, Jr., age 86, originally of Fairfield, Ala., passed away on Monday, June 23, 2008, at Asbury Place in Maryville. He was of the Presbyterian faith. He was the son of the late Fred H. Metz and Ruth C. Metz. He was also predeceased by sisters, Florence Long and Lucille Jones. He was a beloved husband, son, uncle, brother, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Vivian Metz; his son Fred, and daughter-in-law Sophia; and grandsons, Eric and Ellis Metz, all of Maryville; nieces, Joan (Larry) Clark and Pam (Phillip) Russell, nephew Robert Daniel, all of Birmingham; and many great-nephews and nieces. Mr. Metz was a proud U.S. Army veteran of WWII and served in the Pacific theater from 1942 to 1945. He worked for U.S. Steel for over 35 years, enjoyed playing golf, coached youth baseball teams, and was an avid sports fan, having followed the Alabama Crimson Tide for over 70 years. Visitation will be on Friday, June 27, 6–8 p.m. at Johns-Ridout’s Mortuary in Birmingham, Ala. Graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on Saturday, June 28, at 11 a.m., Rev. Carl Russell officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial be made to the East Tennessee Alzheimer’s Association, 2200 Sutherland Ave. Suite H102, Knoxville, TN 37919. Janet Faye Smith

Janet Faye Smith, age 57, of Grifton, N.C., died June 14, 2008, at home. She is preceded in death by her husband, CWO4 Ronald Gene Smith; sister, Carolyn Ann Roberts; and her father, Ernest Raymond Reynolds. She is survived by her mother, Edna Pearline Reynolds; three daughters, Lee Ann Vasquez of Jacksonville, Fla.; Billie Jo Mitchell of Newport, N.C.; Paula Kay Smith of New Bern, N.C.; two brothers, Danny Raymond Reynolds and Gary Wayne Reynolds, and one sister, Sharon Kay Reynolds, all of Knoxville; 11 grandchildren.
