Christopher Michael Dyke
Christopher Michael Dyke, 33, of Athens, went to be with our Heavenly Father Sunday morning, June 22, 2008. He was a loving father, brother, son and a great friend to all who knew him. He was of the Baptist faith and was employed at Waupaca Foundries in Etowah. A native of Blount County and resident of McMinn County most of his life. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Betty Walker of Crossville; paternal grandparents, Lela Dawn and Walter Blain Dyke of Maryville; two uncles, Jack Dyke of Greenback and Bobby Gene Dyke of Maryville; and one cousin, Todd Blain Dyke, also of Maryville. Survivors: two sons, Christopher Baylee Dyke and Bradlee Austin Dyke, both of Athens; father and step-mother, Bill (Butch) and Denise Dyke, Athens; mother and step-father, Jan and Paul King, Decatur; maternal grandfather, Kevin Walker, Decatur; two brothers and sister-in-law, Billy and Gloria Dyke, Riceville, Jeremy Dyke, Athens; one sister, Lacie Dyke, Athens; several aunts, uncles and cousins who will miss him as well. Funeral Services will be 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008, in the Chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Couch and Joe Eaton officiating. Graveside Services will be noon Thursday in McMinn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Dean Burman, Chad Williams, Darrell Smith, Rusty Smith, Gabe Vestal, Kelly Johnson, Wayne Tallent, and Norm Eaton. David Nelson Gibson Sr.
David Nelson Gibson, Sr., 57, of Maryville, went to be with our Lord June 24, 2008, at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Ayers; father, Dave Gibson; grandparents, Webster and Lucy Frye, Nelse and Tish Gibson, He is survived by his son, David Nelson Gibson Jr. of Sevierville; mother, Ethel Frye Huskey of Maryville; grandsons, Steven, and Davy Gibson; friend, Tiffany Bradley; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Diane Gibson; sister and brother-in-law, Lucy and Wayne Parker, all of Maryville; special aunt, Georgie Frye Sluder; several other aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday June 26, 2008, at Memorial Funeral Home in Maryville with Rev. Claude Ramsey officiating. Family and friends will meet at Laws Chapel Cemetery at 11 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2008, for a graveside service. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Richard Kline
Richard Kline, age 53, of Greenback, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2008, at UT Medical Center. Preceded in death by mother, Kay Kline. Survived by daughter, Melissa Kline; sons, Patrick Donnelly, Kevin Kline and Anthony Kline; three grandchildren; father, John Kline; sister, Linda Rook; and brothers, Johnny and David Kline. Donald D. Knight
Donald D. Knight, age 84, of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at the family home after a battle with cancer. He was the founder of Knight's Flowers of Lake City, LaFollette, and Clinton. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and fought at Guadalcanal. Preceded in death by first wife, Violet Knight. Survivors include loving wife, Bobbie Knight, Donald was her caregiver for eight years; son, Dean Knight of Clinton; daughter, Jane Beth Hansen of Virginia; daughter and son-in-law, Norrisa and Bobby Cullum of Mississippi; grandchildren, Eric Hansen, Brandon and Christopher Cullum; brother, Wilburn Knight of Michigan; nieces, Carolyn Blevins, Nancy Ellen Harper, Rose Mary Weaver; nephew, Ray DeArmond; special friends and neighbors, Jack and Fran Murphy. Fred H. Metz, Jr.
Fred H. Metz, Jr., age 86, originally of Fairfield, Ala., passed away on Monday, June 23, 2008, at Asbury Place in Maryville. He was of the Presbyterian faith. He was the son of the late Fred H. Metz and Ruth C. Metz. He was also predeceased by sisters, Florence Long and Lucille Jones. He was a beloved husband, son, uncle, brother, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Vivian Metz, his son Fred, and daughter-in-law Sophia, and grandsons, Eric and Ellis Metz, all of Maryville; nieces, Joan (Larry) Clark and Pam (Phillip) Russell, nephew Robert Daniel, all of Birmingham, Ala., and many great-nephews and nieces. Mr. Metz was a proud U.S. Army veteran of WWII and served in the Pacific Theater from 1942 to 1945. He worked for U. S. Steel for over 35 years, enjoyed playing golf, coached youth baseball teams, and was an avid sports fan, having followed the Alabama Crimson Tide for over 70 years. Visitation will be on Friday, June 27, from 6-8 p.m. at Johns-Ridout's Mortuary in Birmingham, Ala. Graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on Saturday, June 28, at 11 a.m., Rev. Emily Margaret Myers, age 23, passed away June 22, 2008. She was preceded in death by grandfathers, Joseph H. Gilmore and Lowell A. Myers. She is survived by her parents, Alan B. Myers and Margaret (Peggy) Gilmore Myers; sister, Erin E. Myers; brother, Alan B. Myers, Jr.; grandmothers, Margaret McConnell Gilmore and Jean Hutchins Myers; nephews, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Emily attended St. Bernard Academy, and Hume Fogg Academic Magnet High School, Nashville, and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Doris Irene Dobson Rainey
Doris Irene Dobson Rainey, age 80, of Maryville, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at UT Medical Center. She was an active member of Broadway United Methodist Church since 1958, a graduate of Furman University, she was an accomplished artist and musician. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Rainey; parents, Alvin C. And Irene Dobson; brothers, William and Richard Dobson; sister, Nelle Dobson Tuck. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Beth Rainey and Ron Willocks of Chattanooga; son and daughter-in-law, John R. Rainey Jr. and Martine of Franklin; grandchildren, Erica Willocks Troutman and husband Drew, Elliott Rainey Willocks and wife Christina Mincy Willocks; John Lee Rainey and William Marshall Rainey; brothers, Broadus Dobson, and Charles Dobson of Greer, S.C.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 7:30 p.m. Friday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Chapel with Rev. Amy Probst officiating.
