A $500 cash reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspects who burglarized Maryville Jewelers on Wednesday, stealing about $20,000 worth of jewelry.
According to an Alcoa police report, officers responded to Maryville Jewelers, 387 Hannum Street, Alcoa, at 1:27 a.m. on the report of a glass breakage alarm.
When officers Roger Rex and Dek Melton arrived on the scene, they checked both sides of the exterior of the building and found two broken windows.
The officers looked inside the windows and saw that two glass display shelves had also been "smashed in," the report said. The owner of the store was notified and he responded to the business.
At the time of the report, the owner reported that several watches had been stolen from the business.
"They're still in the process of checking their inventory," Alcoa Police Detective Kris Sanders said Thursday.
As of Thursday, Sanders said the business reported that "upwards of $20,000 worth of Citizen watches, a Seiko watch and several fashion watches" had been discovered missing. Sanders said retail value of the watches stolen totaled about $50,000.
There is a $500 cash reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects involved in the burglary, Sanders said.
Anyone with information on the incident or suspects should call Sanders at 380-4964 or the Alcoa Police Department 24-hour crime hot line at 380-4964.
