A Maryville man was arrested early Friday morning after allegedly hitting a 14-year-old boy in the head with a baseball bat.

Rex Allen Hall, 51, McGinley Street, Maryville, was charged with aggravated child abuse and domestic violence with assault.

According to Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp, Maryville officers were in the area on another call at about 12:20 a.m. when a woman approached them to report a domestic situation one street over. The officer responded with the woman and was able to hear arguing and screaming from the residence, Crisp said.

Through a window, the officer allegedly saw Hall chasing a unrelated 14-year-old boy, push him down and them hit him in the head with a baseball bat. The officer told Hall to halt, which he did, Crisp said. According to a Maryville police report, the man dropped the bat, left the residence and was then taken into custody.

The 14-year-old's injuries were not severe and he "did not have to have medical treatment," Crisp said.

Hall allegedly struck a woman with his hand during the altercation.

Information on the nature of the disturbance and what caused it was not available Friday.

Hall was being held at the Blount County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $11,000 pending a 9 a.m. Thursday hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court.
