One man is in custody and police are looking for a second person allegedly connected to a violent home invasion that took place in Maryville.

Nathaniel Michael Howard, 18, Knoxville, was arrested early Friday in connection with the incident, which reportedly took place late Thursday. He was charged with aggravated robbery, especially aggravated kidnapping and aggravated burglary in the case.

According to a Blount County Sheriff's Office report, deputies were called to the scene on Grant Townhouse Drive at about 11:09 p.m. by a witness who said a female had been taken into an apartment at gunpoint.

Once deputies were on the scene they reported finding the woman inside a residence with an unidentified male -- who was later identified as Howard. Deputies were able to get the woman to the door and both came outside, at which point the woman said she didn't know the man and that he had just "broken in" her house, the report said.

An investigation into the incident found that Howard had initially approached the woman and allegedly asked her for marijuana shortly before the burglary. The woman told deputies that she told Howard she did not sell drugs and that she did not have any marijuana. Howard then reportedly walked away from the residence.

A short time later, the woman told deputies that she was on her porch talking to the individual who later called police, when Howard and another man -- who was wearing a blue bandana over his face and was allegedly carrying a handgun -- came around the corner of the apartment building. The unidentified male pointed the gun at the victim and ordered her inside the residence where he and Howard allegedly ransacked the apartment, the report said.

The woman told deputies that she was struck in the face by one or both of the individuals at some point during the incident.

Howard was arrested at the scene, but the other male had left before deputies arrived.

A black neoprene-type ski mask was found in Howard's back pocket when he was searched after being arrested, the report said. He was taken to the Blount County Jail without incident where he was being held in lieu of bonds totaling $225,000 pending a 9 a.m. Sept. 12 hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court.

Investigation into the home invasion is ongoing and authorities are still searching for the second individual allegedly involved in the incident.
