The Blount County Health Department will hold flu shot clinics from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and then again on Oct. 17 at Everett Athletic Complex on the grounds of the Everett Recreation Center, 318 South Everett High Road, Maryville.

Adult and pediatric doses will be available. Influenza vaccine can be given to anyone 6 months of age and older. Individuals attending the clinic need to wear a short sleeve shirt.

The vaccine is recommended for everyone who wishes to reduce their risk of getting influenza; it is especially important for those who are at risk for complications from flu and for those who live with or care for people at high risk.

The cost of the shot will be $25 for adults.

For children 6 months to 19 years old, please call the health department to schedule a flu shot. The cost for children ages 2-19 is $13.70.

The clinic will also offer pneumonia vaccine for $41.

The pneumonia vaccine only needs to be given once to anyone over age 64 and is also important for younger adults with diabetes, heart disease and other chronic illness.

Medicare and TennCare can also be billed.

The Health Department is only able to bill regular Medicare and TennCare. It is no longer able to bill Cariten, RailRoad Medicare or Humana or other MCOs. Please bring all your insurance cards with you. Correct change is preferred.

The Health Department had erroneously advertised that a flu shot clinic would be held on Oct. 10, but there will be no clinic held that date.
