The reward for information leading to the location of Michael Edwin Hearon was increased to $15,000 Tuesday after the Blount County Sheriff's Office received anonymous contribution pledges of $10,000 -- on top of the $5,000 already offered by the sheriff's office -- in the hope of generating new leads in the case.

Hearon was last seen on Aug. 23 leaving his residence on Bell Branch Road in Tallassee on an ATV. A five-day extensive search for Hearon was conducted by members of the Blount County Sheriff's Office, Great Smoky Mountains National Park rangers, Blount County Fire Department, Blount County Rescue Squad, as well as hundreds of volunteers. Hearon's ATV was found on Aug. 26, but Hearon was not located and no other clues to his disappearance have been found.

Anyone with any information on Hearon's disappearance is encouraged to call the Blount County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at 273-5001, or the 24-hour Crime Hotline at 273-5200. To be eligible for any reward, individuals reporting information must be willing to give their name and contact information.

The Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division is actively following up on any and all leads on Hearon.
