Ninth Foothills Fall Festival begins Friday

It appears the usual excellent October weather will be on hand for the ninth annual city of Maryville Foothills Fall Festival which opens Friday and continues through Sunday in the downtown area.
Cited by USA TODAY as one of the Top Ten Festivals in the country, it is recognized by Southeast Tourism Society as a Top 20 event. In 2005 and 2008 it won the title of Best Festival in the Southeast from the International Festival and Events Association, receiving its Silver Kaleidoscope Award.
All events are free except for the shows at Theater in the Park.
Readers and regular attenders don't need to be told how good it is. They know!
However, this might be a helpful summary of part of what to expect.
Arts and crafts:
Roughly 100 artists and craftsmen will have their wares available on the main street of Broadway which will be blocked off from Cates Street to Norwood Street.
Children's Adventure Land:
An exciting bit of entertainment and activity for children will be located along McCammon Avenue, on the downtown side of the Greenbelt Lake.
Downtown entertainment:
Daily face painting adjacent to the Tomato Head Restaurant and free musical entertainment at Roy's Record Shop.
Theater in the Park:
Entertainers of regional and national reputation. Tickets are required.
Parking:
It will be scarce in the downtown area. Park at Foothills Mall free and ride a free bus to and from downtown. At least two buses are equipped to handle handicapped persons.
Restrooms:
Portables are located across the street from Tomato Head Restaurant and restrooms with diaper changing area are available at Broadway Methodist Church.

Saturday, Oct. 11
Arts and Crafts, Children's Adventure Land: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m..
Roy's: 11 a.m. Abbey Sinders and The Gregg Boys; 12:30 p.m. Gritt Fritter - John Dupree; 2 p.m. Pistol Creek Catch of the Day; 3:30 p.m. Jason Hutchens and the Jazz Collaborative; 5 p.m. Jack Wilburn.
Theater in the Park: 1:30 p.m. Lone Mountain Band; 3 p.m. Sgt. Jamie Buckley; 4:30 p.m. Road Runners; 6 p.m. Billy Ray Cyrus; 7:30 p.m. Jason Aldean; 9:30 Josh Turner.
Sunday, Oct. 12
Arts and Crafts, Children's Adventure Land: 12 Noon - 6 p.m.
Roy's: 12:30 p.m. Chil-Hi Mountain Gospel Grass; 2 p.m. Honky Tonk Piano Man; 3:30 Page Two with Friends in the Kitchen.
Theater in the Park: 1 p.m. Life Wide Open; 2 p.m. The Birdsong Family; 3 p.m. Seven Day Believer; 4:15 Ashton Shepherd; 5:30 p.m. Jason Michael Carroll; 7 p.m. Billy Currington; 8:30 p.m. Kenny Rogers.
A lot of work and effort has gone into making this outstanding event possible. We hope that residents of Blount County and the region will enjoy this big community get together. It is a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the arts, craft and events while visiting with friends and neighbors!
