Police say an altercation between three women in Friendsville resulted in a possible broken nose for a 2-year-old child who was present at the time of the incident.
According to a Blount County Sheriff's Office report, Carol Angela Holt -- also identified in sheriff's office documents as Carole Angela Willis -- 37, Big Springs Ridge Road, Friendsville, was charged with aggravated child abuse, and is accused of errantly striking the child while trying to hit his mother.
When deputies arrived on the scene in Friendsville, Holt was found to be bleeding severely from a head injury. Holt said she had been in an argument with Nicole Renea Roulette, 18, Marble Hill Road, Friendsville, and the child's mother -- who is not being named to protect the identity of the 2-year-old. Holt told deputies that during the altercation the child's mother "became violent and struck her in the head with an aluminum bat and (a) flashlight," the report said.
The child's mother told deputies that she did hit Holt with a flashlight, but said she did it in self-defense after Holt, in an attempt to hit the mother, hit the 2-year-old, the report said. The child was taken to Blount Memorial Hospital with a possible broken nose. He was treated and released to his father, the report said.
According to the report, witnesses at the scene told deputies the child's mother also hit Holt with an aluminum bat.
When questioned by deputies, Roulette said her actions in the incident were also in self-defense, but witnesses told deputies "that Ms. Roulette was not acting in self-defense and did assault Ms. Holt," the report said.
Roulette and the child's mother were seen by deputies with "numerous blood stains on their clothes" and the bat and flashlight were located by authorities. The items were "stained with blood," the report said.
All three women were taken into custody at the scene -- Holt was charged with aggravated child abuse and Roulette was charged with simple assault. No information was available on what charges, if any, were filed against the child's mother.
Roulette was free on a $1,000 bond, and Holt was free on a $50,000 bond, both pending 9 a.m. Oct. 15 hearings in Blount County General Sessions Court.
