UT-Vandy kickoff set for 12:30 p.m.

The Southeastern Conference announced Monday that the Tennessee football team's Nov. 22 game at Vanderbilt is being televised by Raycom Sports and kicks off at 12:30 p.m., or 11:30 a.m. locally in Nashville. UT's only other appearance this season on Raycom was the 35-3 win over UAB on Sept. 13.

The only other SEC game being televised that weekend is Mississippi at LSU, which will be shown on CBS at 3:30 p.m. ESPN and ESPN2 are not televising any SEC games on that date.

Scots earn NCAA tournament bid

While Maryville College earned three Great South Athletic Conference championships this weekend, only women's soccer earned a bid to the NCAA tournament. Pepe Fernandez's Scots will face Lynchburg College on Saturday. Maryville lost 1-0 to the Hornets in last year's first round. Lynchburg is second in the national polls and has yet to lose this year at 19-0-3. The Scots come in with a 17-3-1 record.

Both men's soccer and volleyball were left out of their respective national tournaments because the GSAC doesn't earn an automatic bid in those sports.

Vols lose another commitment

Running back Jarvis Giles of Tampa, Fla., has dropped his verbal commitment to the Tennessee football team, according to GamecockCentral.com.

Giles, ranked the nation's No. 2 all-purpose back for the 2009 class by Rivals.com, is the fourth UT commitment to reopen his recruitment since Vols coach Phillip Fulmer announced last week that he won't return next season.

Elementary, middle hoops reports

Due to the volume of elementary- and middle-school basketball results being reported, the time required for transcription and the desire to have all names spelled correctly, The Daily Times urges that results be sent by e-mail to sports@thedailytimes.com instead of phoned or faxed to us. If your team's game is not listed, that means the result has not been reported by a coach or scorekeeper. Also, we cannot report scoring for only one team. Our deadline for scores is 10 p.m. each night.

Portugal Blue wins tourney

After 26 days of competing in the Knoxville area, the Portugal Blue team traveled to Roanoke, Va., Nov. 8-9, for the last tournament of the 2008 fall season and brought back yet another championship trophy to East Tennessee. Since Aug. 16, Portugal Blue has competed in nine tournaments, logged more than 3,500 miles and claimed eight championships in Tennessee, Ohio, North Carolina and Virginia. The team's success was guided coaches Darrick Lubell, Josh Gray and John Giles. Portugal Blue is currently ranked No. 1 in Tennessee and No. 4 nationally by soccerincollege.com.
