State title game tickets

Tickets for Friday's and Saturday's state championship football games involving Alcoa and Maryville will go on sale at the respective schools today. Tickets are $10 and will be sold during the time school offices are open each day, from approximately 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The tickets for the Alcoa-Milan Class 2A game will be on sale at Alcoa High, and the Maryville-Hillsboro tickets at Maryville High. Buying tickets through the high schools allows for one-half of the ticket price to go to the schools, and fans are encouraged by Alcoa and Maryville athletic directors to support the schools in that manner.

Reindeer Run on Sunday

The Maryville-Alcoa-Blount County Recreation and Parks Commission will be hosting the Reindeer Run 5K road race on Sunday. The race will start and finish near the Ruby Tuesday Corporate office on W. Church Avenue in Maryville. All levels of walkers/runners are encouraged to

participate in this community event. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Empty Pantry Fund. This is the final race of the tenth annual Ruby Tuesday Triple Crown of Running. The ceremony for the Triple Crown of Running will take place following all Reindeer Run activities.

The Reindeer Run road race will include a 5K route at 2 p.m. through the streets of Maryville and Alcoa, and also include a 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk at 2:30 p.m. on the Greenbelt near the amphitheatre. The check-in area on race day will take place at the Maryville Municipal Parking Garage across from the Ruby Tuesday Corporate Office and Sullivan's Restaurant, and it will be open from 12:45 - 1:30 p.m.

Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each age group. There will be an open and masters division. The top male/female in the overall and masters division will receive a special award. All 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk participants will receive a ribbon. The pre-registration fee is $15 until 3 p.m. on Thursday at the Parks & Rec office on Everett High Road or you can register www.parksrec.com until 2 p.m. that day. The day-of-race registration fee is $18 on-site.

Fields Memorial tourney at MCS

The Robert Fields Memorial Basketball Tournament will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Maryville Christian School, 2525 Morganton Road, Maryville. Fields was a coach in the area for many years, including at Greenback School, AAU (American Athletic Union) and two years at Maryville Christian School, said Maryville Christian elementary boys basketball coach Buster Goodman. Fields died of cancer last year and the tournament is in honor of his many years as a coach. Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the Fields family.

The schedule is: Thursday 4 p.m. girls of Temple High School of Knoxville vs. Knoxville Home School; 5:30 p.m, boys of Temple and Knoxville Home School; 7 p.m. girls of Kings Academy at Seymour vs. Maryville Christian School; and at 8:30 p.m. boys of Kings and Maryville Christian.

Friday 4 p.m. girls of Knoxville Home School vs. Kings Academy; 5:30 p.m. boys of Knox Home School and Kings; 7 p.m. girls of Maryville Christian vs. Temple; and 8:30 p.m. boys of Maryville Christian and Temple.

Saturday 9 a.m. girls of Temple vs. Kings Academy; 10:30 p.m. boys of Temple and Kings; noon girls of Knox Home vs. Maryville Christian; 1 p.m. boys of Knox Home and Maryville; girls championship at 3:30 p.m. and boys championship at 5 p.m.

Cost will be a $5 donation per person.

Maryville Middle baseball meeting set

There will be an informational meeting for all Maryville Middle School 7th grade boys interested in trying out for the 7th grade club baseball. The meeting for boys and parents is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Maryville Middle School gym. Tryouts for the team are scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. at Cherokee Athletic Complex.

Brooks Rookie of Week again

UMBC freshman guard Katie Brooks (Maryville, Tenn./Heritage) was named America East Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row, the conference announced Monday. The award covers all games from Nov. 24-30. Brooks was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Iona Thanksgiving Classic after averaging 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists and shooting 56.5 percent (13-for-23) from the floor in UMBC's two tournament wins.

Lady Hammers second in tourney

The Blount United U-13 Lady Hammers finish second in the Clash Turkey Soccer tournament in Cartersville, Ga, by going 2-1-1 in pool play. The Lady Hammers defeated the U-14 Clash 8-1, lost to the U-13 Clash 1-0 and bounced back to defeat the U-14 Bartow Shooters 2-0 before earning a hard fought 0-0 tie with the U-13 Ambush 96. Scoring goals for the Lady Hammers were Jessica Dixon (3), Courtney Dyer (2), Sarah Brewer (2), with Sydney Duncan, Madison Donley and Alicia Yarlett adding one goal each. Chloe Wheatley was the winning keeper in the two wins.

State title games on TV

The state championship games featuring Maryville and Alcoa will be broadcast live on CSS on the Charter cable system on channel 26. On Friday, Dec. 5, at 8 p.m., Alcoa vs. Milan in Class 2A, and on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 4:30 p.m., Maryville vs. Hillsboro in Class 4A.
