A former Maryville woman was shot to death Tuesday in Nashville, and her estranged boyfriend has been charged with criminal homicide.

Shellie Diane Albright Hernandez, 30, was killed outside her Nashville apartment in front of her three children, according to media reports.

The suspect in the killing, Michael Dewayne Williams, 29, had allegedly been threatening Hernandez with a gun in front of the apartment while police were responding at about 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Hernandez died on the sidewalk outside the apartment from a single gunshot wound, according to information from the Metro Nashville Police Department.

Williams, who was described by authorities as Hernandez's estranged boyfriend, then allegedly fled in Hernandez's vehicle -- a white Chevrolet Impala.

There was a history of violence on Williams' part toward Hernandez. He was charged with aggravated assault from a Sept. 4 incident during which he is accused of putting a gun to Hernandez's head during an argument, according to information from Nashville authorities. Williams allegedly hit Hernandez several times during the incident and threatened to kill her.

He was released from jail on a $50,000 bond and was arrested two days later on allegations that he violated an order of protection Hernandez had taken out against him. He was again released from jail on Monday after serving 10 days on the violation charge. According to information from the Metro Nashville Police Department, Williams has previous convictions for felony drug possession, domestic assault, assaulting a police officer and evading arrest.

A BOLO (be on the look out) was issued for Williams to authorities in Blount County -- along with other areas -- after the shooting, but according to Metro Police spokeswoman Kristin Mumford, it did not appear Williams was planning a trip to Blount County when he was arrested by members of the Metro Nashville Police Department Special Response Team. Williams was apprehended about 20 miles away from the scene of the shooting at about 6:20 p.m.

"We don't believe he was on his way to Blount County," Mumford said.

Local funeral arrangements have been made for Hernandez by Miller Funeral Home.
