Alcoa church to honor King

Rest Haven Missionary Baptist Church in Alcoa will present the drama, “Living the Dream,” at 4 p.m. Sunday at the church, located at 224 E. Watt St. The program will pay tribute to Dr. King and President-elect Barack Obama. It will contain scripture readings, song, dance, poetry and drama, along with some “Yes We Can” moments. Alcoa High School’s football team will be recognized.

‘Get on Track with Missy Kane’

Covenant Health fitness expert Missy Kane will offer her power-walking program, “Get on Track with Missy Kane,” Wednesdays beginning Jan. 14 at West Town Mall, Knoxville. The 10-week program is designed for those who are interested in walking or jogging in the Covenant Health Knoxville marathon’s 13.1-mile half marathon. The $25 registration fee covers the cost of mini health screenings from the Center for Community Health. Fitness experts will be on hand from Fort Sanders Health and Fitness Center and Covenant Health Body Works. To register, call Covenant Health at 541-4500.

The 2009 Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon takes place on March 29 with the finish line in Neyland Stadium. The marathon events include a full marathon (26.2 miles), half marathon (13.1 miles), 5k, relay and Covenant Kids Run for children on March 28. Billiard classes offered at Everett

BCA Certified Instructor James Auger will hold billiards classes from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursdays, Jan. 29-April 16, at Everett Senior Center, 702 Burchfield St., Maryville. The class will review basics and cover more advanced skills and shot making. Beginners and advanced players, both men and women, may attend. Students will be invited to participate in a tournament on the last day of class. Space is limited so reserve a spot early by calling 983-9422. Cost is $50 for center members, $55 for non-members. One-on-one time, as needed, will be available from 11 a.m. to noon.

SKIT announces open casting call

SKIT Productions Inc. is currently scheduling auditions and open enrollment for principal singers, actors, dancers, set designers, production crew, musicians and volunteers for the 2009 season. Open registration will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 12-16 at the SKIT Studio/Theatre, 507 Ellis Ave., Maryville. Children ages 10 through adult, even those with little or no experience, are encouraged to audition. Of special need are male performers of all ages and high school teenage female performers. Enrollment space is limited. Other classes available for open enrollment. Rummage sale set for Saturday

New Providence Presbyterian Church, 703 W. Broadway Ave., Maryville, will hold a rummage sale from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday and again on Jan. 23. Books, shoes, boots, clothes, household items and toys will be available. Funds raised benefit local charities.
