Blount students eligible for scholarships

East Tennessee Foundation announces the availability of scholarships for Blount County students for the 2009-2010 school year. Of the 28 active scholarships established through ETF, five are available for Blount County residents. They include the B&W Y-12 Scholarship, the Ruby A. Brown Memorial Scholarship, the Gail Clay Scholarship, the Gordon W. and Agnes P. Cobb Scholarship and the Reuben Louise Cates Mount and Junior Service League of Blount County Scholarship.

Hip-hop dance program offered

GeoMotion -- Dance, Dance, Revolution, a six-week program offering hip-hop dance, speed and agility drills and interactive games, will be held Jan. 15-Feb. 19 at the Blount Memorial Wellness Center at Springbrook.

Kids ages 6-8 will meet from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m., and kids 9-12 will meet from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Cost is $30 for members and $65 for non-members.

Coleman returns to ET to perform

The Knoxville Museum of Art's Alive After Five music series presents an evening of classic blues performed by the Wallace Coleman Blues Band from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Coleman, a self-taught harmonica player, is a native of Morristown. He maintains his East Tennessee roots, returning here at least once a year to reunite with family and friends to perform at various venues.

Admission to this performance is $9 for non-members and $5 for museum members and students with ID.

Build a model bridge for AMSE

Students in grades seven through 12 can now receive the specifications and rules to build a model bridge to enter in the 2009 East Tennessee Regional Model Bridge Building Contest Feb. 28 at the American Museum of Science and Energy. Contest information, including rules and specifications, may be found at AMSE, 300 Tulane St., Oak Ridge, or online at www.amse.org. All bridge builders must send their registration forms to AMSE by Feb. 11.

Register now for Energy Bowl

Teachers can now register their middle-school teams in grades six through eight to compete in the 2009 Energy Bowl, scheduled for March 3-5 at the American Museum of Science and Energy, 300 Tulane St., Oak Ridge. Specific information is available at AMSE or online at www.amse.org. Registration deadline is Feb. 9.
