A Pigeon Forge business burned Saturday.

Fire erupted outside the Old Time Pottery store on Teaster Lane, burning a large section of the store's exterior.

Fire investigators traced the starting point of the blaze to cardboard boxes near the front entrance of the building.

Brisk winds fueled the flames but also pushed the fire away from the store's front doors.

"There were pretty good prevailing winds today," said Pigeon Forge Fire Chief Tony Watson, who estimated them at about 15 miles per hour.

Firefighters are investigating the cause of the blaze.

Styrofoam material in the building's facade burned hot and fast, according to Watson.

It was enough to trigger the building's sprinkler system inside, which helped contain the damage.

"The fire sprinkers are what saved the place," said Watson.

No one was injured in the fire.

One side of the building exterior took heavy damage, and there is water and smoke damage throughout the inside of the building.

The Old Time Pottery store is in the Belz Outlet Annex.

Crews kept the fire from spreading to the other businesses.

Firefighters were on the scene just before 1 p.m.

Crews from Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Waldens Creek, Wears Valley and Pittman Center were on the scene.
