A man and woman were taken into custody today and charged with promoting the manufacture of methamphetamine, Blount County Sheriff James Berrong said.
Sherri Ann Elliott, 46, of Caryville, and Richie Paul Hawkins, 30, of Knoxville, are in custody at the Blount County Detention Facility. Both will be charged with promoting the manufacture of methamphetamine. Elliott will also be charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance (methamphetamine). Bond amounts and court dates have not been set.
Today, investigators with the 5th Judicial Drug Task Force were alerted to the arrival of persons shopping for pseudoephedrine and acting suspicious at two different Blount County businesses. Contact was made with Elliott and Hawkins in the parking lot of one of the businesses. The investigation revealed that Elliott and Hawkins had 462 dosage units of pseudoephedrine which were going to be sold to a “Meth Cook” in Anderson County.
The 5th Judicial District Drug Task Force is comprised of officers and deputies of the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, the Maryville Police Department, and the Alcoa Police Department. All investigators assigned to narcotics investigations are members of the Tennessee Meth Task Force, which allows for specific statewide intelligence sharing used to identify, investigate, and prosecute persons using and manufacturing methamphetamine.
