Cookout, yard sale to benefit Children's
A yard sale, cookout and bake sale will be held Friday and Saturday at Food Lion, 1793 W. Broadway at Moroney's Corner. The yard sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cookout and bake sale will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, drinks and cakes along with several baked goods.
All proceeds will benefit Children's Hospital.
Tellico to hold open house on Saturday
The Tellico Harbor Property Owners' Association will host a Neighborhood Open House from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. All houses and lots for sale in the neighborhood will be available for viewing. Visitors will also be able to tour the clubhouse and marina and receive information about the neighborhood.
The clubhouse will serve hot dogs during the event.

Seminar will discuss water features
Popes Garden Center in Maryville is holding several seminars on Saturdays through May. The next one, "Modern Water Features Made Easy," will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with John Adams of Modern Design Landscaping. The seminar is free and open to the public. Church's clothing giveaway will be Saturday
Blount Christian Church, located at 323 Partnership Parkway just past William Blount Drive, will hold a clothing giveaway from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday or until all items are gone.

Historian to discuss creation of National Park
The history of the creation of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park will be the subject of a lecture by Daniel S. Pierce at 2 p.m. Sunday at the East Tennessee History Center.
The lecture is free and the public is invited to attend.
In his lecture, entitled "A Fairy Dream on a Goat Hill: One Historian's Journey into the History of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park," Pierce will discuss the history and the pageant of people who inhabited the mountains and the motivations behind the movement to establish the park.
Pierce is a professor at the University of North Carolina at Asheville.

Car show reset for Saturday
The Learning Tree Open Car Show at Fairview United Methodist Church has been rescheduled for Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Entry is $15, with spectators admitted for free. Lunch will be cooked on site.
