At 3:38 p.m. today, Chuck Brown noticed white smoke coming from his next door neighbor’s house on Calvert Street in Rockford and called Blount County Fire Department. It took firefighters only five minutes to knock down the fire once they arrived on the scene, said Blount County Fire Chief Doug McClanahan.
“It appears to have started in the kitchen,” he said. "It is extremely hot in there...even the linoleum had melted. It may have been smoldering for awhile. The neighbor did an excellent job seeing the smoke and calling the fire department.”
The occupants, Scottey and Holly Ellison, were not home at the time of the fire.
